The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a global leader in international education. As of September 2023, there were over 8,000 programmes being offered worldwide, across over 5,700 schools in 159 countries.
The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, confident, and caring young people. Our programmes empower school-aged students to take ownership in their own learning and help them develop future-ready skills to make a difference and thrive in a world that changes fast.
The IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) is taken over two years in Vg2-3. Students select 6 subjects which they study over two years with a greater number of hours and depth in three of these subjects (higher level) of their choice.
Having six subjects and a focus on reflection and critical thinking helps to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge—students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
Gjøvik Pre-IB, taken in Vg1, prepares students for the IBDP by offering a majority of instruction in English. Moreover teachers, many of whom also teach in the IB introduce students to the type of tasks/activities they can expect to meet in the IBDP.
Students follow the national Norwegian curriculum which ensures they can choose different pathways after the first year if they decide not to continue with the IB.
